I've been using a few different outside services to handle my email filtering. I've been very pleased with these services...and reasonably priced. It's $1 or $2 per month per mailbox. That's cheaper than a software program that you buy and install for $50.

Thanks Tony -- the free Thunderbird email client (http://getthunderbird.com ) has darn good built-in spam filtering, too. And my mom swears by 'the bully' http://www.spambully.com/ for Outlook.

Often a combination of server-based and client based filtering is effective, but the easiest first step is usually to tweak the server setup; more about that here: http://www.modwest.com/help/kb9-235.html
